"The Locker Project" By Jillian Palmer, Amanda Sequeira & Kindra Shaw opening Wednesday March 28

Tomorrow welcomes the opening of the last exhibition for the Spring 2012 semester, The Locker Project, by Jillian Palmer, Amanda Sequeira and Kindra Shaw. Come one, come all and join us at the reception for some juice, cheese, crackers, and cookies! (these days we even have grapes!).

"How the Light Gets In" by Bekk Wells, opening this Wednesday February 29

This Wednesday February 29th welcomes the opening of the exhibition, "How the Light Gets In" by Bekk Wells. Wells is a very cross-disciplinary student and his interests span across the sciences and humanities. It's sure to be an interesting show! So come on down in front of the gallery, Locker W138, 8th Level of the Fine Arts Building for some discussion and some snacks!
You might want a little break between all of that mid-term studying and assignments!

Closing Reception for 'Stripped' by C. Gauthier on Wednesday February 15th

Because we confused you all with an opening on a Tuesday, we decided to have a closing reception for Cindy Gauthier's exhibition, 'Stripped', on the traditional Wednesday afternoon around 4pm! (Specifically 4:30pm - it should last until 6:30pm, but we'll see if there's cake left until 7pm).

The reception will take place on Wednesday February 15th. The exhibiton won't be closed quite yet, but we wanted to fit in a reception before Reading Week.

Cindy has some pretty neat cakes up her sleeve...she likes to bake, and she's going to make two, actual 3D skull cakes! Come on down to Level 8 in front of the gallery, Locker #W138, for a sweet treat and some good times! We'll make sure we have beverages, too.

Images & Review for 'Eternal Return'

"Artist Statement – “Eternal return is a concept posed by Nietzsche, which suggests that the universe has been recurring, and will continue to recur, ad infinitum. The story goes like this: at a lonely and solitary moment in your life you are confronted by a demon that informs you that your life will be repeated exactly as it has occurred, to the smallest of details. Nietzsche says the reaction to this news is indicative of one’s attitude toward life. Subsequently, every deed and moment carries an unforeseeable amount of weight, and every decision presses upon the rib cage. Life continues as a balance between paralysis, or the unwillingness to act, and the weightlessness of freedom from accountability. "The niche gallery is set within the institution yet works outside the institution"

"The niche gallery is a place for anyone to show their work, whether it is a student, faculty member, or someone outside of the institution. The plexi-glass door also allows the viewer into the space as well, a space that is normally private. With niche gallery, the text panels are placed outside of the interior space because the gallery itself is art. When the niche gallery is between exhibitions, the space is still open. Although the space is empty, it is full. When another artist places his/her work in the space, it creates collaboration between the space and the artwork, between the artists and the viewers. Each piece has its place and remains separate, but also works together. There is a difference between inside and outside, but they co-exist"
